Buffaloes absorb more heat due to their black color and have very few sweat glands. Heat stress drops milk yield and stops breeding.
Cooling Strategies
- Wallowing: Allow them to sit in a water pond if possible.
- Sprinklers/Foggers: Install foggers in the shed.
- Washing: Wash buffaloes 2-3 times a day with cold water during peak heat.
- Feeding Time: Feed during cooler parts of the day (early morning/late night). Reduce feed during the hot afternoon.
